Val Nichushkin's teammate throws him under the bus after suspension
During the difficult series against the Dallas Stars, Avalanche veteran Jack Johnson reacted to teammate Valeri Nichushkin's latest suspension.
Nichushkin has been a key member of the Avalanche lineup scoring 10 points( 9 G, 1 A) in 8 games during the playoffs.
Due to his latest suspension, he won't be able to help the team for the next 6 months. The suspension resulted from a failed drug test, leading to Nichushkin checking into the player's assistance program.
"#Avs forward Val Nichushkin has been suspended without pay for a minimum 6 months for violating terms of #NHL/#NHLPA Player Assistance Program.
Sources say Nichushkin recently failed a drug test. He missed playoff games last year after a 911 call in Seattle in which an intoxicated woman was found in his room."
The Avalanche would lose the next game to the Dallas Stars, 5-1 and players were asked about Nichushkin's ongoing debacle.
Jack Johnson shared his opinion, very cut and dry:
"#Avs Jack Johnson on Val Nichushkin:
''He made his decisions. That's all I'm going to say on that. He made his decisions.''
Nichushkin's nameplate has already been replaced in the Avs locker room."
It looks like Nichushkin hasn't made a lot of friends in the locker room since his situation worsened. Nichushkin's been suspended for 6 months, and his locker room name plate has been removed as well.
Was this the last year we see Nichushkin wearing Avalanche colors?
