The NHL regular season for 2023-2024 ends this week, during this time award finalists will be named.

Winners will soon be named afterward, including the Calder Trophy, aka the NHL's Rookie of the Year award.

The race for the Calder has been a heated competition between Connor Bedard and Brock Faber this season. Not only are the team's rivals, but the competition between the rookies added layers to the already intense rivalry between the two teams.

Bedard has thought to have the Calder Trophy locked up due to the circumstances he's overcome to maintain the lead this season. All the while Faber has also had a successful year with the Wild, becoming the Minnesota Wild's #1 defenseman in place of Jared Spurgeon's absence.

Fourteen NHL writers had an unofficial offline vote, keep in mind none of them are a part of the PHWA(Professional Hockey Writers Association) and wouldn't be eligible to vote anyway.

The voting system is based upon a 5-4-3-2-1 system, which again Bedard would lead with 67 points leaving Faber in the dust with 57 points.

Bedard may have not secured three unofficial votes in this poll, he would have to lose more writers in the PHWA poll to lose the Calder.

Bedard missed a month but didn't miss production as it quickly resumed when he came back into the lineup after the jaw fracture. He has since put up 60 points(22 G, 38 A) in 66 games.

Faber has 45 points(7 G, 38 A) in 80 games, playing 25 minutes a night, and has an edge playing NCAA hockey.

It seems likely that Bedard will attain the Calder, but for now, it is a tight race.
