Blackhawks come out as huge winners in trade with Pittsburgh Penguins
The Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins finalized a trade yesterday, which began back in January.
On January 6th, 2024, the Blackhawks obtained veteran forward Rem Pitlick from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a conditional 7th round pick.
The condition stipulated that the Penguins would receive the pick if Pitlick played in 30 games for the Blackhawks.
However, Pitlick fell short of this milestone, as he was reassigned to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs after just 9 games.
With the remaining games in the season, he won't reach the 30-game mark.
According to Blackhawks insider Ben Pope, the trade condition was for Pitlick to play 30 NHL games.
Since he only played nine, the Blackhawks will retain the pick they traded. Therefore, the trade ultimately cost the Blackhawks nothing.
