Chicago Blackhawks favorites to land superstar Hurricanes forward
The Carolina Hurricanes fought valiantly against the President Trophy winners, the New York Rangers. They were unable to enact the usual curse that has befallen the winners this season.
With the team crestfallen, soon to be disheveled, the team will have to make tough decisions regarding roster construction.
According to the NHL Insider Elliote Friedman, the Hurricanes don't have plans to bring back Martin Necas next season.
Necas will be an RFA, with arbitration eligibility but in doing so they have essentially rendered him a UFA.
With the Blackhawks loaded with assets and salary cap space, Kyle Davidson could afford to give Necas a new home with $33 Million in salary cap space.
Necas played 77 games for the Canes this season and put up 53 points( 24 G, 29 A) and could be utilized by Davidson as another weapon to surround Connor Bedard with.
Not to mention, his age ranger is perfect for the rebuild timeline, at age 25 Davidson could get prime years of Necas and continue to shape the Blackhawks into a successful organization once again.
If a player who is a Restricted Free Agent (RFA) does not receive a Qualifying Offer by their team June 25 at 5pm Eastern, they become a UFA and are free to sign with any team on July 1. A player who is no longer eligible for the Entry Draft, or who was eligible but not selected, becomes a UFA.
