4 Nations Faceoff Team Canada GM Don Sweeney Reveals Why Bedard's Didn't Make The Roster

The Four Nations Face-off has lineups of epic proportions, as we've seen the roster for Team Finland, which included Blackhawk forward Teuvo Tervainen.
Yet, rising superstar Connor Bedard has failed to crack the roster of Team Canada's roster.
The choice was surprising, as Don Sweeney would move forward with his choices including Seth Jarvis(?!) but not Connor Bedard.

According to Sweeney , they felt the database they built was specifically to win the Four Nations Face-Off. A task, that apparently GM Don Sweeney and Hockey Canada Coach Jon Cooper felt Bedard wasn't up to the ask.
Bedard wasn't the only snub for Team Canada, as Alexis Lafrenière, a former 1st round pick in 2020 was also left off the roster.
Anthony Cirelli being on the roster, who had a disappointing season last year smells like favoritism in my opinion.
«We definitely went in with a wider lens for that particular reason to identify players that are going to project out down the road, players that might not necessarily be ready for, I mean, they could play, they're ready, but they weren't pushing somebody out of a job that we felt earned it at this point in time, with a singular focus of going to the 4 Nations to win,» Sweeney said.
«Selfishly: did we build out a database with all those players? Yeah, we did, because we're going to have to continue to have those stack up on top of each other year, the next year and a half, and make really hard decisions.»

Last season Cirelli posted only 45 points(20 G, 25 A) and he's only had 3 40+ seasons in his career.
Built to win, or giving out free spots to depth players on your coach's team?
Just another day, and another Don Sweeney fumble.
