New Blackhawks Head Coach Anders Sorensen Coach Reveals The Imminent Changes Coming To The Team
The Chicago Blackhawks fired Luke Richardson yesterday, and have hired Rockford IceHogs coach, Anders Sorensen in the interim role.
While it is regrettable that Kyle Davidson had to fire Richardson, there's new energy surrounding the organization, as Sorensen takes the reins.
He is here to bring the Blackhawks and Connor Bedard to the competitiveness, that the team advertised they'd have with moves made during the offseason.
This is Sorensen's first crack at a coaching gig in the NHL and changed the philosophy behind the play that the Blackhawks will use.
He wants to emphasize the speed on the roster and get the defense involved in the rush while playing to the player's strengths. While being aggressive with the forecheck, instead of hanging behind the NZ.
His philosophy behind the new look Blackhawks is encouragement and basic fundamentals, as the Blackhawks engaged in tape-to-tape practices today too.
Here's the reboot with Anders Sorensen leading the way, with fundamentals being a part of the Blackhawks practice regiment.
Sorensen originally joined the Blackhawks in 2013-2014 as a development coach, and would later become the Rockford IceHogs assistant coach in 2018-2019. In his first season with the IceHogs during the 2021-2022 season, he'd lead the IceHogs to the Calder Cup playoffs.
Sorensen's been the IceHogs coach for 229 games in the AHL and has a 117-89-16-7 season. The former IceHogs coach has a record of reaching the playoffs in the minors and developing NHL-ready defensemen such as Alex Vlasic.
This could be the start of a great run with the Chicago Blackhawks if he can keep the team steady against the Winnipeg Jets who are hungry for a win Saturday.
