Former Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook spoke to TSN, revealing the gruesome details of how his hockey career came to an end.

The injuries began on December 26, 2019, when Seabrook was placed on long term injury reserve. The Blackhawks announced that he would require three separate surgeries to repair his damaged right shoulder and both of his hips. This led to him missing the entire 2019- 2020 season.

The final injury that finished his career was a back injury that he suffered prior to the preseason training camp in 2021. He told TSN that he was unable to walk for three months, and that issue was what led to him hanging up his skates at the end of March 2021.

"I couldn't walk," Seabrook told TSN in a recent interview. "I was ready to go, and then all of a sudden, I couldn't walk. It was three months of banging my head against the wall trying to get healthy."

«I told my body to screw off for 15 years and it finally turned around and said, well, I'm not going to do it anymore."

Brent Seabrook had a fantastic career as a Chicago Blackhawk as he had won three Stanley cups along with playing 1114 games, scoring 100 and three goals with 361 assists for 464 points with 661 penalty minutes. Seabrook echoed that sentiment regarding his career and felt that he wanted to control when he left the game on his own terms.

"I had a great career," he said. "Maybe my stubbornness of not missing games wanting to be out there with my teammates affected my body later on. You don't want to go out that way. I wanted to go out on my own terms.

He has now moved into the role of coaching and with all of his knowledge and his experience in the NHL as a winner will bode well with the up-and-coming players of the Canadian National Junior Hockey team for the 2024 World junior championship.
