Today the Blackhawks defended home ice with the kind of effort we're used to seeing in the 3rd period. Generating pressure in their opponent's defensive zone, and today we saw Connor Bedard take advantage of it.
He already scored a point, with a slick assist on Teuvo Teravainen's power-play goal. But he'd put the stake in the heart of the New York Islanders with a minute left in the third period to put the Blackhawks up 4-3.
The resulting goal, would give the Blackhawks an empty netter with Connor Murphy scoring the final goal of the game, securing a victory over Patrick Roy's New York Islanders
This looks like a new era of Blackhawks hockey, where they have bought into Sorensen's system.
The goal was Connor Bedard's 7th of the season, giving him 25 points for the season( 7 G, 18 A).
The Connor Bedard we know and love, is back!
The goal happened off of a rebound, from the slot where Ryan Donato tried to score on goalie Ilya Sorokin. He was unable to finish, and Connor Bedard was there to back up his linemate and take advantage of the juicy rebound.
The assist was Ryan Donato's 7th of the year, giving him 17 points( 10 G, 7 A) and a -1 rating for the year.
If you recall in late November he was slumping. Under Sorensen's new regime, Bedard has fully bought into the system, and this was his response to the first practice under the former Rockford IceHogs coach:
While the Blackhawks are still a rebuilding team, getting your 1st overall pick back into his game is a point of order.
Sorensen has found the switch that Richardson couldn't flip, and we're here for it.
