According to a tweet from Frank Seravalli of the daily faceoff, the NHL deemed Perry to have significant presence in the crease which led to the overturning of his goal and prevented the Oilers from going to a 2-0 lead near the end of the first period. It was clear that the officials had a lengthy discussion to determine whether this was goaltender interference or not.
The rule states that if the attacking player impedes the goaltender's ability to move freely within his crease whether it's contact or by his positioning will lead to the goal being called back.
This call lit up the Internet with many people including Calgary fans stating that this was not goaltender interference. The above camera showed Perry was well away from Vladar And he had time to be in position and ready to take the shot which appeared to be tipped by Perry into the net.
It's been a tough three games for the Oilers as the team has appeared flat and not able to recapture what they accomplished in the Stanley Cup finals even though they lost to the Florida Panthers. The team is currently 0-3 in the standings and have been outscored 15-3 with no signs of improving.
Perry had decided to remain with the Oilers for another season as many pundits and fans felt that he was going to hang up his skates as he is currently 39 years old. He signed a contract for $1.15 million and has been on their bottom 6.
It remains to be seen on what the Oilers will do next but it's safe to say things are becoming uneasy in oil country.
