The Blackhawks still possess millions of dollars in cap space which could bode well to reinforce the team as it looks to take itself to the next level and move away from the lottery pick talk and potentially knock on the door of a playoff spot.
Several players could benefit the Blackhawks including James van Riemsdyk, Kevin Shattenkirk, Tyson Barrie, Antti Ranta and Max Pacioretty. What all these players have in common is their well over 33 years old and still have a few years left in their careers who could help the Blackhawks in several areas.
Players like Van Riemsdyk and Pacioretty would give the Blackhawks secondary scoring and also bolster their power play as both men could give them solid minutes. Van Riemsdyk is the six foot three player who could sit in front of the net and also help deflect pucks.
Shattenkirk and Barrie would only be attractive if their cost were quite low. Both players are 33 and 35 years old and are in the twilight of their career. Their experience would certainly help the younger players and could give them valuable tips and information on how to be better defencemen.
As for their goaltending, Davidson has 3 goalies already and will not likely bring a fourth one in unless he can find a deal that could send one of their goalies out by trade.
As the team closes in on September, it's likely Davidson will go out and spend his money and these players could be who they're looking for.
