Member of the Blackhawks ejected from World Juniors for ugly head contact hit

During a recent game between Finland and the United States, Blackhawks prospect AJ Spellacy was thrown out of the game for head contact during the 2024 world junior summer showcase.

The play occured in the third with the United States up 5-3 on Finland when Spellacy made head contact which led to the Finnish player dropping to the ice. He was thrown out for the remainder of the game.

The 18 year old forward who stands at six foot 3 and 201 pounds was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2024, in the third round 72 overall. According to eliteprospects.com his main attributes as a player is a heavy hitter, physical forward and a powerful skater and one of his specialities is to make contact with other players.

He currently plays for the Ontario hockey league's Windsor Spitfires and during last year's season he played 67 games, scoring 21 goals 17 assists for 38 points with 59 penalty minutes.

It's likely during training camp he will be looked at by general manager Kyle Davidson and Luke Richardson with his coaching staff but for all intensive purposes he will be back with the Windsor Spitfires next season.
