The Blackhawks Have Acquired Their Next Jonathan Toews With Prospect Sacha Boisvert
It's commonplace for the Blackhawks prospect Sascha Boisvert to be compared to Jonathan Toews and the similarities are undeniable.
The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Sascha Boisvert 18th overall in the 2024 NHL entry draft.
Boisvert played for the Muskegon Lumberjacks prior to making the jump to the NCHC, and has a frame of 6'2" and 176 pounds.
Boisvert gained notoriety for his 200-ft style of play and was one of the reasons he was drafted so high by GM Kyle Davidson.
When the comparison was made between the former Blackhawks Captain and himself he clarified he's all about learning from the best.
"I think you've got to take it. Maybe learn from his game too," Boisvert said of the comparison. "You learn from a lot of people's games and just try to bring to your game from their game and try to get better with that."
This season Boisvert is playing in the NCHC with the University of North Dakota showcases a great one-timer, along with a talent for goal-scoring.
Boisvert is a goalscorer. A deceptive wrister and powerful one-timer make him a threat from distance, while his net-front skills and off-puck timing drive his in-tight finishing. He can also make just about every pass in the book, easily navigating layers of sticks with slip and saucer passes, even off the backhand.
The Blackhawks Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Doneghey has paid a massive compliment to Boisvert's skill and poise:
"Long body, ultra-competitive," Blackhawks director of amateur scouting Mike Doneghey said. "He boxes in the summer. His father owns a gym. He plays on the edge, but he also had 36 goals in that league. If you look back at [Winnipeg Jets forward] Kyle Connor and [Vancouver Canucks forward] Brock Boeser and those guys, those are similar numbers to what he had. He's got size down the middle, he can skate, he's good on face-offs and he's another fantastic kid."
This season with the University of North Dakota he's played 21 games and scored 18 points ( 9 G, 9 A ).
In 2023-2024 with the Muskegon Lumberjacks Boisvert scored 68 points ( 32 G, 36 A) in 61 games in the USHL.
