The Chicago Blackhawks Placed These Two Players on Waivers
The Chicago Blackhawks today have cut the roster by eight played total today.
As they recently sent six players packing to the Rockford IceHogs, two more may be joining them if they clear waivers.
Both of these players are Zach Sanford and Brett Seney.
Zach Sanford
Zach Sanford was originally claimed by the Blackhawks on January 6th, 2024 from the then existing Arizona Coyotes, now Utah Hockey Club.
Sanford has served as a depth option for the Blackhawks and played 29 games in the AHL in 2023-2024, split between the Tuscon Roadrunner, and Rockford IceHogs scoring 10 points( 4 G, 6 A).
He'd be utilized by the Blackhawks playing 18 games in 2023-2024 as the team experienced a multitude of injuries scoring 4 points( 4 A) with a -2 rating on ice.
Sanford has seen 25 games of post-season play in the NHL and was signed by the Blackhawks on May 28th, 2024 which takes him through this season, with a $775K salary cap hit.
The 6-foot-4, 206-pound forward has appeared in 334 career regular-season NHL games split between the Washington Capitals (2016-17), St. Louis Blues (2017-21), Ottawa Senators (2021-22), Winnipeg Jets (2022), Nashville Predators (2022-23), Coyotes (2023-24) and Blackhawks (2024), totaling 104 points (49G, 55A). He has also notched eight points (2G, 6A) in 25 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with St. Louis. With the Blues during the 2019 postseason, Sanford tallied four points (1G, 3A) in eight games to help St. Louis to a Stanley Cup.
The native of Salem, Massachusetts was originally drafted by Washington in the second round (61st overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

Brett Seney
Following him to Rockford will be Brett Seney, who was the IceHogs MVP and scored 63 points( 23 G, 40 A) in 68 games in the AHL last season.
The 28-year-old was signed to a one-year two-way contract by the Chicago Blackhawks, with a cap hit of $775K.
Seney, 28, led the Rockford IceHogs in goals (23), assists (40) and points (63) in 68 games, tying his career best in goals and setting a new career high in points. The forward was named Rockford's Team MVP in the 2023-24 Team Awards, and he was the first IceHog since Brandon Pirri in 2012-13 to hit the 60-point plateau. He was also the first IceHog since Pirri to rank within the top 20 of league scoring, finishing tied for eighth in points and 11th in power-play goals amongst all AHL players during the 2023-24 regular season. Seney's 63 points notched a new Rockford's AHL team record for points by a winger in a single season that was previously set by David Gust at 59 in 2022-23.
