Is Connor McDavid leaving Edmonton at the end of his contract with the Oilers? ESPN's Greg Wyshnski felt the need to address it with a bold statement on former Sportsnet's 32-thoughts host, Jeff Marek's podcast "The Sheet".

This statement by the ESPN insider has sparked rage amongst Edmonton Oilers fans, and we do not blame them.
Many fans, and now NHL reporters believed that when Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl signed a large extension to stay with the Edmonton Oilers, until he is 37 years old in the 2032-2033 season, crazy, right?
Well, many believed that when Draisaitl signed, that guaranteed McDavid would end up re-signing with the Oilers in the 2026 off-season when his contract expires.
However, a major turn of events has occurred as Wyshnyski isn't whatsoever convinced that McDavid wants to remain in Edmonton, and that the Oilers' next two years in the post-season playoff will determine his fate on re-signing with the organization.
The ESPN insider, Wyshnski, pointed to the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers as possible candidates of teams who will have a boat-load of cap space to spend on taking a run at Connor McDavid.
«I feel like we all kind of exhaled and said Connor's an Oiler for life when Leon signed and I don't believe that's the case anymore.»
McDavid has yet to earn a Stanley Cup while being deemed the greatest player of his generation, at age 28, time is slowly ticking down.
McDavid could choose to test free agency in 2026 at his own will, the Oilers have zero control in what McDavid decides to do when his contract expires, and that should raise concern for Oilers fans.
I believe that McDavid will want a new change of scenery if management cannot put together a Stanley Cup winning team within the next two years, who could blame him?
Could he join his good friend, Auston Matthews, in Toronto? Who knows, any destination is possible...
