As of today, 42 players have been placed on waivers by various teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, and the Washington Capitals.
Upon reviewing the list, there are several notable names available that could benefit some teams. Other names are intriguing because they were unexpected choices for waivers.
Wade Allison of the Philadelphia Flyers was expected to be on the main roster again this year. However, he was plagued with injuries last season and failed to regain his form upon his return. He currently carries a cap hit of $780,000 for this season and was drafted by the Flyers in 2016, during the second round, 52nd overall. Last year, he only managed to play 60 games and scored 15 points.
Another noteworthy name is Nicolas Aube-Kubel from the Washington Capitals. Just over three years ago, he was part of the Stanley Cup-winning team, the Colorado Avalanche. He signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, who subsequently traded him to Washington after he failed to meet expectations. It's clear that he hasn't found success with the Capitals either, given his placement on waivers.
NHL fans will have to wait and watch to see if any other players are placed on waivers in the next few days as the countdown to the new season begins."
