5 Thoughts: Red Wings vs Hawks - October 21, 2022 Hawks Win

1. Max Domi is the Hero: Max Domi poked the puck away from the Red Wing, took it down the ice and shot a filthy snipe to win the game in Overtime. Max has 2 points this season, both of them being goals. Domi isn't doing bad on this rebuilding Blackhawks team, and is setting up to have a great season.

2. Great Opportunities: The Hawks had a lot of opportunities in the first half of the 1st, which in my opinion, was when the best hockey was played. We were fast, and played really well. The Hawks finished off with 29 shots, one more than Detroit with 28 shots.

3. Penalty Shot: Andreas Athanasiou scored the first penalty shot for the first time in 4 years. The crowd erupted when the puck hit the back of the net, and rightfully so. Athanasiou fired a nasty shot that went blocker side. It even made Ned stand still.

4. Power Play and Penalty Kill: The Power Play has looked rough in the Preseason and Regular Season so far. Of course, they scored on it a couple times, but it's missing the combination of Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat, as expected. The Penalty Kill is just atrocious. Chicago is lucky to get the puck out of the zone once or twice, and they rely on Mrazek or Stalock to make the plays. Something needs to change, and it should be addressed in practice a lot more.

5. Former Hawks Galore: The Blackhawks have let a lot of people go, and traded a lot, these past couple years. Pius Suter, got a deflection goal on the Power Play. An unlucky bounce for Mrazek. Dylan Larkin got shot a wrist shot, that danced pass Petr. It was during 5 on 5 play. Dominik Kubalik got a deflection goal as well. That's 2/3 goals scored by former Hawks.

It was a fun hockey game to watch, and Domi was the Overtime hero.
