As displayed, these fans must be somewhat wealthy to pay $16,605 or $405 per game. Be reminded that was a primary reason that the Yotes wanted to build their own arena in the East valley, where more fans have disposable income.
The plan is to have half-season ticket plans as well for those who don't want to spend a fortune to go see some hockey games.
Keep in mind, this arena only holds about 5,000 seats. Also be aware that the Coyotes finished 31st last season, and weren't very good.
They were more or less forced into finding a place to play their games this upcoming season when their lease with the city of Glendale was terminated. Playing at the ASU facility, while not ideal, will allow them to concentrate on convincing the city of Tempe council that their $2.1 billion arena/entertainment district project is good for the area.
Some officials at the Sky Harbor International Airport disagreed with putting apartments in the area, due to the noise levels. Coyotes' attorneys and CEO/President Xavier Gutierrez has assured the city that proper noise prevention methods will be used. Prospective tenants will also sign a statement showing they are aware of the situation and will not sue the city.
Of course, the team and their representatives are using their marketing skills to entice people that playing in an "intimate" (to put it mildly) atmosphere will be exciting and the place will be loud.
That's all fine and good, but as one can see to make up for losing ticket sales, the prices skyrocketed.
As it stands currently, the team would love to get the project approved and start to clear the land, which is currently a dump, so they may begin construction. They would like to see if they can start doing that by the fall, but it is strictly up to the city as to the timeline.
Gutierrez stated, «We'd love to do it in the fall. That's what we've told them. We said that would be our ideal,» Gutierrez said. «But we are very, very aware that this is not our decision. We do not control the process. We respect the process just as we had from day one. We know that the city is directing it and and trying to ensure that they're comfortable.»
«It's going to be privately financed,» he said. «We'll be putting up the capital. We would be very excited about creating the first privately financed entertainment district in the history of Arizona.»
So, being a hockey fan in Arizona will definitely cost more, and some previous season ticket holders cannot afford it. Apparently the owner of the team, Alex Meruelo doesn't realize that inflation is running rampant. While there are certainly enthusiastic fans, there's a limit they can spend on going to a hockey game.
What it boils down to is... a sellout in the ASU arena is not that impressive. Or, better yet would you spend $400 on a ticket to see a team going through a rebuild and losing quite a few games?
I wouldn't.
