Friedman recently stated on the 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that he would expect the Penguins to ask the NHL about speaking to Bowman, citing his past history with Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.
Before Sullivan's successful tenure with the Penguins, he worked in player personnel with the Blackhawks while Bowman was in charge. This connection could make Bowman an attractive candidate for the Penguins as they look to revamp their roster and management after a disappointing season.
