Off paper, the Vancouver Canucks were supposed to have a wonderful season, but as soon as opening night hit, many fans were embarrassed by how poorly their team performed in comparison to expectations.
J.T. Miller and Bo Horvat, two of the organization's top players, have been the main topic of very much drama. According to insiders, the Canucks management does not treat players fairly and frequently "low balls" them in an effort to secure a bargain new contract. However, if you're a star, you'll simply leave the organization and take your talents and more money with you.
Beyond the problems with Horvat and J.T. Miller, they also healthy scratched forward Brock Boeser on Hockey Fights Cancer night. Boeser was on a point streak and had recently lost his father to cancer, so that game was extremely meaningful to him. Boeser then made a trade request following the game.
An insider has disclosed that the Canucks' problems begin to arise when players begin to perform above expectations and require a larger contract. The Canucks appear to be alright paying players up to that point.
The Canucks gave Horvat an insulting offer, the forward chose to reject the agreement, and now the team is looking for the best deal to send him away, according to NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal of the Canucks.
It is believed that the offer came in at less than $8M AAV/$64M total.
Horvat, 27, has 20 goals & 29 points through 28 games played this season.
Per Frank Seravalli, there is at least one team in the NHL that is willing to give him $9M AAV in free agency.
The Canucks continue to embarrass themselves while mistreating their star players, the organizations CEO has reportedly refused to rebuild even though it seems as if they are in need of one if they would like any success within the coming years.
