It's always a dream come true for kids to get drafted by an NHL team, and Benjamin Gaudreau was no exception. In 2021, he was drafted 81st overall by the San Jose Sharks. However, he won't be able to play for his team despite his enthusiasm.

This is because the Sharks' goalie pipeline is already packed, and they could not decide on time, which may have cost them another prospect.

The #Sharks 🇺🇸 are opting NOT to sign goaltender Benjamin Gaudreau (@bengaudreau03) 🇨🇦, making him eligible to re-enter the draft this summer.

Gaudreau, 20, was 24-12-3 with an .889 SV% with the Sarnia Sting (OHL) 🇨🇦 this season.

He also went 1-1-0 with an .828 SV% with Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, winning Gold 🥇🇨🇦

As a result, Gaudreau will not sign an entry-level contract with the team. Instead, he will re-enter the draft and search for a better opportunity.

While the Sharks have recently added Magus Chrona and Georgy Romonov to their pipeline, Gaudreau and his agent have clarified that the team's goalie pipeline is not why they won't sign with San Jose.
