There was another retirement announced today, unexpectedly.
Mike Gapski has been the athletic trainer for the Chicago Blackhawks for the past 36 seasons.
Gapski will be retiring after this season concludes, his time with the Blackhawks will conclude with 2,758 regular-season games and 249 playoff contests. Amazingly he has worked with 53.1% of all players to play for the franchise as well. The talent Gapper has seen come and go is a real testament to the level of skill and commitment to the team he has made, from Denis Savard to Patrick Kane and even now with Philip Kurashev his lack of presence will be felt afterward.
Gapper has seen 4 Stanley Cup finals in his tenure with the club and was with the Hawks during 3 of them.
He will oversee the transition from training camp at the beginning of next season but will become more hands-off as times go.
Have a great retirement Gapper!
