Canadian Roster Containing 3 Blackhawks Already Projected For Gold
It is almost that time of year again! Where Christmas is coming along and before you know it'll be the new year, 2023! Which also means the World Junior Hockey Championship will be taking place as well, it'll begin on Monday December 26th and end on January 5th 2023, it'll last a whole year! (just a joke).
What is the World Juniors? Each country who is selected to enter a team will gather their countries most highly scouted prospects, the best of the bests have played in the World Juniors in their early days such as Wayne Gretzky, Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby and the list goes on. Many rivalries are built but one out of them all usually remains the most highly prompted, Canada vs USA.
Both teams have a heavy roster heading into the tournament which begins in 11 days, but Team Canada seriously looks like they may win it all- on paper of course.
Let's take a look at the lineup Canada has been showcasing in practice:
LINE 1: Othmann(NYR) - Wright(SEA) - Bedard (undrafted)
LINE 2: Fantilli (undrafted)- Stankoven (DAL)- Guenther (ARI)
LINE 3: Dean(VGK)- Gaucher (ANA)- Roy (MTL)
LINE 4: Schaefer(EDM)- Bankier (MIN)- Ostapchuk(OTT)
Defense line 1: Del Mastro (CHI) - Zellweger (ANA)
Defense line 2: Allan (CHI) - Clarke (LAK)
Defense line 3: Korchinski (CHI)- Matier (NSH)
A few surprising takeaways from this roster is the Chicago Blackhawks are the only team to have 3 or more players on a single roster, and the first to do so in many many years. Their 3 defensemen in the tournament are future faces of the franchise.
Another takeaway is Edmonton Oilers R.Schaefer, who was not even projected to be invited to camp but has now made the roster with his hard-earned efforts. Schaefer will get his opportunity to play for Canada, while the Canadian Oilers army is right behind him!
