Tragedy has struck the youth hockey world in Europe after a 15-year-old boy went missing last week. He had been playing for the Swedish league's Frolunda youth hockey team. Team officials have stated that the player's name will only be known as Henrik and that he had been missing since Monday.
The team also released an official statement regarding the state of the investigation:
"The news on Sunday evening has shaken the association considerably, not least considering how important ice hockey was for Henrik. In this difficult moment of grief and loss, Frölunda HC has focused on supporting Henrik's family and teammates. The association has sought professional help to ensure that everyone gets the assistance and support they need." - Frolunda HC
Henrik was found a week later, and several minors have been arrested in connection with his disappearance. Police are now treating this as a homicide. Since the discovery, two have been released, and a 16-year-old boy is being held on suspicion of murder.
Prosecutor Andreas Ekengren released a statement regarding the investigation as well:
"The 16-year-old has admitted that he met Henrik on the same night he disappeared but denies having exposed him to a crime. The boys were familiar with each other from before, and the police are trying to find a motive for the murder." - Prosecutor Andreas Ekengren
We send our sympathies and prayers to Henrik's family and the Frolunda hockey team.
