Chicago will be facing off against the San Jose Sharks, who are 29-33-10 and sit second to last in the Pacific Division, which is the same position as the Hawks in the Central. Scheduled to play each other 3 times this season, tonight will only be the second meeting. The first was in November, and the Sharks came away with a 2-0 win. Fleury was in net, made 20/21 saves, as the second goal was an EN. James Reimer was the winning goaltender with a 29 save shutout. Timo Meier scored both goals for San Jose.
Tonight, Kevin Lankinen will be minding the net for Chicago, and the Sharks are sticking with Reimer for their starter. Hawks are making line changes from the last couple games and returning some to «normal». Lukas Reichel will be sticking around for his 9th game, on a line this morning with Dach and Lafferty. Calvin de Haan will be back in and Caleb Jones is out.
In the media availability, Jonathan Toews spoke of the embarrassment felt over playing the way the team's been playing. «Across the board, the last few outings have been pretty embarrassing, I would say. Regardless of the score, regardless of whether it was a win or loss, the effort just wasn't there. There's no connection in our team game and not valuing what we have.» (Ben Pope, reporting.)
Here's hoping the team connects and delivers for the man who's been the voice of their team for 39 years - longer than every single one of them has been alive - and gives us the chance to hear those six words every Blackhawks fan lives for, «Hawks win! Hawks win! Hawks win!»
