The National Hockey League is in the business of making money, first it was helmet ads, then it was jersey ads and now they want to introduce something that's arguably more distracting than both of those things combined.
According to the Sports Business Journal, the NHL is looking at replacing traditional board ads with virtual ads that can change throughout the game. Take a look:
There are couple things here: 1) these boards can be distracting for the viewer experience on TV if dons badly, which based off the clip shown, they're going to be atrocious and 2) if you're going to do something like this, you must expect backlash.
As always the NHL finds ways to destroy the on ice product as it stands. They don't care about their fans, only making money. The state of the league is sad right now and I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.
