With training camp in full swing and the NHL season on the horizon, all NHL teams hope that their players can survive training camp and the preseason games without injury.
Unfortunately, that's not realistic as injuries do happen over time. Some injuries are related to being off the game for over two months and shaking off the rust. Other times, it's just an injury caused straight up by another player colliding or causing an accident.
During today's game against the Minnesota Wild, Blackhawks player Sam Savoie suffered a horrifying injury as he was skating toward the boards and crashed into them knee-first.
(Add the hyperlink here) Everyone in the building, including the Minnesota Wild bench, the Blackhawks' bench, and their fans, all collected their thoughts as Savoie was being stretchered off the ice.
He gave everybody a thumbs-up as he was being escorted out, which gave head coach Luke Richardson a moment of pause and a deep breath. (Add the hyperlink here) Savoie was a third-round draft pick for the Blackhawks in 2022, and he was likely heading back to the Gatineau Olympic in the QMJHL.
Only time will tell if this injury will prevent him from playing further this year.
**UPDATE**
MEDICAL UPDATE: Samuel Savoie remains in Minnesota for further medical care following a lower-body injury suffered during last night's game.
Additional updates will be sent out at a later time.
