Matthews deal now the biggest contract in the. NHL!?
As the new general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving is about to embark on his first season in the role.
In order to secure a Stanley Cup one day, he is currently in the process of trying to lock down the core four for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The group known as the "core four" is in a special situation because they are all in the last years of their contracts. While discussions about William Nylander's contract are currently at a standstill, the same does not apply to Auston Matthews' camp.
It has been reported that Auston's AAV will be $13.5 million, according to Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet 590 The Fan Show.
The term for the young center has not been officially announced yet, although it has been speculated that it may range from 3 to 5 years.
In spite of the fact that Matthews regressed slightly from the 60-goal, 106-point season he had the previous year, he still tallied 85 points and played a skillful, two-way game, while working on his defensive skills, while playing with a wrist injury.
It is likely that Matthews is not going to be a Selke candidate anytime soon, but if the number is accurate, he will rank above Nathan MacKinnon as the highest-paid NHL player.
