This has not been the Senators' best week in years. The team has been beleaguered by bad news over the past seven days, with several stories and key players out with injuries to round out this terrible week.

It began with restricted free agent Shane Pinto being slapped with a 41-game suspension due to potential dealings with gambling. Then the Senators lost two key defensemen to injury, one of them being Thomas Chabot, who will be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a fractured hand, and Erik Brannstrom, who is out with a concussion after his head hit the ice during a body check by Cal Clutterbuck of the Islanders.

Now, according to NHL insider and "32 Thoughts" podcaster Elliot Friedman, the NHL is set to come down on the Senators following a trade they made with the Vegas Golden Knights involving forward Evgeny Dadanov.

"When [Vegas] acquired him from the Ottawa Senators, they were told that Dadonov had not submitted his trade request on time. So if Vegas wanted to move him, they could do whatever they needed to do," revealed Friedman on "Hockey Night in Canada."

It appears that the Senators were not upfront about Dadanov having submitted his trade request.

"That wasn't the case; he had submitted it," added Friedman. "The reason it's relevant now is that sometime in the next few days, the NHL is going to announce some sort of punishment for the Senators in that situation."

"I think we're going to get a clear explanation of what occurred and why Vegas wasn't at fault."

It's tough to say what punishment the Senators will face, but it's more than likely they will lose a draft pick for this year's draft. This comes at a time when the team is still adding more pieces to their group as they attempt to emerge from their rebuild phase.
