NHL player safety comes to a verdict on a cheap-shot delivered by Kane
Last night's face-off between the Oilers and Wild didn't disappoint in delivering some heated moments. Evander Kane, a key player for the Oilers as of late, found himself at the center of the action. In the third period, Kane threw a check on Wild defensemen Jonas Brodin along the end boards, prompting many fans to call for a suspension.
As reported by Michael Russo of the Athletic, the NHL has decided not to hand down any additional penalties to Kane, offering a straightforward explanation.
Watching the video clip, it's clear that Brodin, despite being in a vulnerable position, opted to initiate a reverse hit against Kane. Although the collision led to Brodin leaving the game due to injury, both players were actively engaged in a physical play.
Hearing no discipline coming to Evander Kane likely because Brodin shoulder checks and didn't protect himself despite fact Evander Kane needlessly drives his head into the glass
It's a rare instance for the NHL to provide a clear explanation and make a sound decision on a contentious hit.
