On This Day in Blackhawks History- April 27 Edition
Playoffs might not be on the mind of the current iteration of the Chicago Blackhawks, but back in 1992, the Blackhawks were hot. After being down to St. Louis Blues one game to two in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Blackhawks roared back to defeat the Blues four games to two.
From there, the Hawks moved on to face the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings became a dominant force in the 90s, but this series was not to be theirs. The Blackhawks steamrolled them four games to none to sweep the series. No octopus for the Red Wings yet. Seven wins in a row.
Then, it was on to the conference finals against the might Edmonton Oilers. And, wouldn't you know it, the Hawks continued their wining ways, sweeping the Oilers four games to none. This completed an 11 game playoff winning streak- the longest in history.
Sadly, the Blackhawks were swept in the Stanley Cup Finals by the Pittsburgh Penguins. But, for that one day, April 22, 1992, the Chicago Blackhawks were record setters.
