Patrick Kane exposes the Blackhawks for blindsiding him and Jonathan Toews
Kane Talks About Being Blindsided by the Blackhawks
This week, Patrick Kane surprised everyone by signing a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings worth $2.75M. As he gets ready to make his Red Wings debut against his hometown team in Buffalo, Kane shared some interesting details about his decision during free agency.
In a chat with Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Blackhawks' team reporter, Kane said that he thought he was returning to the Chicago Blackhawks. This adds more to his decision, especially because of his history with the team and former captain Jonathan Toews.
Kane, who got traded to the New York Rangers, admitted:
"Yeah, I mean, I never really knew, right? Especially after that first pick, I was like, OK, maybe they'll try to bring, even like Tazer or myself back.'"
Kane said.
Talking about his early career, Kane said having older players around helped him a lot.
«I know when I was a young guy, it really helped having some older guys around like Robert Lang, (Martin) Havlat, Yanick Perrault and Patrick Lalime, guys like that. Obviously, we had some young guys coming up that were pretty special players, and that made it pretty easy on me, too. It seemed like they wanted to go in a direction where they were going to bring in some different type of veterans.
Said Kane.
He mentioned the team bringing in different veterans instead of bringing him back and said, "Yeah, it's what it is. Good for them. You don't think about it too much."

Now, in Detroit, Kane is playing with another former Blackhawks player, Alex DeBrincat. They had a good partnership before, with DeBrincat scoring lots of goals.
People are now wondering what could have happened if Kane and a healthy Toews returned to the Blackhawks this season, as both reportedly expected. It could have been exciting with rising star Connor Bedard on the team.
But now, Kane is focusing on his new journey with the Red Wings.
