There's definitely going to be more general managers looking to improve their team's by the March 3rd's deadline. One team that's definitely going to be busy is the Chicago Blackhawks. General Manager Kyle Davidson has more than a handful of players he's hoping to fetch a good return for by team's looking to contend.
One name that has came up in discussions as of late is Blackhawks defenceman Jake McCabe.
The 27 year-old is a pending UFA this summer and the Blackhawks GM is still unsure if he wants to move McCabe or not. One team that's reportedly been showing a lot of interest in McCabe is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are hoping to finally contend this time around.
The Leafs know the asking price for McCabe now and so do we, thanks to Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic revealing Chicago's asking price revolves around a first-round pick, and if the Blackhawks retain salary (which they will most definitely), more will be coming back to Chicago.
The Blackhawks signed McCabe as a free agent years ago, this will be a surprising "flip" for the Blackhawks organization if they make something work.
McCabe's value is his contract. He's cost-controlled and signed for two more seasons at a cap hit of $4 million dollars. However, Dubas said earlier in the week that he's hesitant to part with a first-round pick or a top prospect for a player on an expiring contract.
McCabe would be a nice addition to any playoff team, he has 15 points in 47 games this season, averaging 19:25 of ice time he would be a nice fit especially in Toronto.
