One team that could definitely surprise alot of people is the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa hasn't made many good decisions in the past when it comes to trade or signings but after tearing it down Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion has done a great job bringing Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux to the Nation's capital.
Dorion's work isn't complete yet with about a month to go until training camp Dorion hopes to sign restricted free agents Alex Formenton and Erik Brannstrom. Both restricted free agents coming off their entry-level contracts, the Senators currently have $7.9 million in cap space with Brannstrom and Formenton the only players left unsigned.
Brannstrom, 22, spent the majority of the season in the NHL with Ottawa, registering 14 assists in 53 games. In nine games with the AHL's Belleville Senators, he had a goal and two assists.Brannstrom was originally drafted 15th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2017 NHL Draft but was acquired by the Senators in the Mark Stone trade back in in 2019.
Formenton, was drafted in the 2nd round 47th overall by the Senators also in the 2017 NHL Draft. Formenton had 18 goals and 32 points in 79 games last season with Ottawa. The 22-year-old has 23 goals and 39 points in 109 career NHL games
