The NHL is lacking in veteran leadership this year and it's not by choice, as Gabriel Landeskog is still out with injury. Jonathan Toews and the Blackhawks parted ways this off-season, leaving a massive void.

There are very few NHL teams with as many experienced captains as Jonathan Toews.

Without Jonathan Toews wearing the C for the #Blackhawks this season & because of Gabriel Landeskog's injury, there are now four active captains of longer than 10 years in the NHL:

Sidney Crosby - 17
Alex Ovechkin - 15
Jamie Benn - 11
Steven Stamkos - 11

(12 for Landeskog)

Currently, there are only four active Captains in the NHL who have been leading their teams for ten years or more.

As captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins for 17 years, Sidney Crosby leads the pack, followed by Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals for 15 years, and Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars both have 11 years behind them.

Inactive due to injury, Gabriel Landeskog has been the captain of the Colorado Avalanche for 12 years.

The Blackhawks will be experiencing a loss of experience and leadership on the ice with the arrival of Connor Bedard as the new #1.

Tazer will, however, be missed on ice by all of us.
