As soon as Motte finished his 31 games in Columbus, he moved on to Vancouver, where he stayed until he was traded to the New York Rangers for a 4th-round pick in 2023.
Until recently, he seemed unlikely to have a second chance at playing in the NHL.
This week, Julien Brisebois acquired Motte on a discount contract, for $800K for one year, after Motte had waited out the summer to find a new home to play.
As a result of the discussion of what Motte was actually worth, the contract is a discount by any means. By doing so, the Lightning has given Motte a chance to continue his career. He can keep performing what he does best, forechecking and backchecking aggressively.
A career-high 11 goals and 30 points were tallied by Motte between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators in 62 games.
In addition, he led all Senators forwards in blocked shots per 60 minutes, with 5.01.
He will lace up his skates in Tampa Bay after playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, and Ottawa Senators over the course of his NHL career.
Throughout his NHL career, he has scored 43 goals and 81 points. He has played in 39 playoff games between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers, scoring 6 goals and 7 points.
