The Wirtz Family is well-known for owning the Original 6 team, the Chicago Blackhawks, which flourished during the Patrick Kane era. Recently, a source close to reporter Scott Powers revealed that the Wirtz family plans to diversify their hockey portfolio by purchasing the Chicago Steel, a junior hockey team in the USHL.

Apart from their hockey interests, the Wirtz Corporation has a vast and varied portfolio that includes real estate, distribution, insurance, banking, and entertainment.

BREAKING: USHL's Chicago Steel being purchased by Wirtz Corporation

This latest development comes soon after the passing of Rocky Wirtz, the 70-year-old family leader.

The Chicago Steel is a highly regarded Junior League team that has won the Clarke Cup twice in recent years - in 2017 and 2021.

Their success can be attributed to their ability to develop players, as evidenced by their impressive record of producing draft picks such as Adam Fantilli, Owen Power, Matthew Coronato, and future 1st rounder Macklin Celebrini.

The team was relocated from the Edge Ice Arena to the Fox Valley Ice Arena in 2015 and is expected to remain there as a part of the Wirtz Corporation.

The acquisition of Chicago Steel will conclude on Monday.
