The Blackhawks were out for revenge in the 2012-2013 season after back to back heartbreaking first round playoff exits. The NHL lockout resulted in a cancellation of roughly 60% of the season, but that didn't stop the Blackhawks. Chicago went on a historic 24 game point streak with a record of 21-0-3 during that span. Everyone was contributing, but one of the biggest factors for the Hawks was the outstanding play of goaltender Ray Emery.
On this date in 2013, Ray Emery single handedly saved the Blackhawks point streak with his amazing play against the Flames on the road in Calgary. Emery stood on his head, making one big save after another to keep the Blackhawks in the game. Emery made 45 saves in the game on 47 shots faced in one of the most lopsided shooting games the Blackhawks ever escaped with a win in.
Emery's performance fueled the Blackhawks streak and gave them the confidence they needed to keep pushing forward knowing that they had two great goalies between the pipes. Ray Emery sadly passed away at 35 years old on July 15th, 2018 in a drowning accident. Emery will be remembered in Chicago for his great performances and down to earth personality that everyone loved.
