Steve Simmons, a sports journalist for the Toronto Sun, has never shied away from offering a provocative viewpoint on any issue, and his most recent viewpoint has garnered a lot of negative feedback online.

This one is about a well-known National Hockey League activist by the name of Akim Aliu, a former player who rose to fame after he exposed former NHL head coach Bill Peters for using a racial slur against him. Since that time, Aliu has been an outspoken opponent of racism in hockey, but it would appear that not everyone in the hockey community has embraced his advocacy.

Steve Simmons:

''No one wants to say this because of the politically correct police and all, but those who coached Akim Aliu must cringe every time they see him in a news report or a commercial talking about what's wrong with hockey. Like he would know. By my count, Aliu played for 23 teams in nine different leagues in 12 professional seasons and rarely finished any season with the same team he started with. If that was colour-related, how is it that Wayne Simmonds spent just about the same 12 seasons playing in the NHL?''

Wayne Simmonds was not pleased with the unnecessary comparison, and released a statement.
