Wayne Gretzky went on a Maple Leafs podcast and gave a compliment to former Blackhawk Max Domi.
"One of the things that I'm really impressed with is that Max had some offers, two or three year offers to go to other cities, and he chose in his heart 'I'm gonna go there, I'm gonna take a little bit less money, I wanna be a Leaf and show people that I can earn another contract' and that's what you want as an organization," said Gretzky. "You want your guys to be hungry right?"
Max Domi is 28 years old, so he's really betting on himself here taking less money and going on a one-year contract. He certainly could've gotten more after his 56-point season, along with 13 playoff points. What really swayed his decision was that his father was a Leaf before, and he wanted to fill in his footsteps.
Hopefully Max can keep his momentum going into next season, and live up to the compliment the Great One gave him.
