Nathan MacKinnon just became a very rich man. MacKinnon signed an 8-year contract extension worth $12.6 million AAV. McKinnon is now the highest paid player in the NHL, but the details of his new contract are even more mind boggling than the annual value.
McKinnon's new contract includes $85.34 million dollars in signing bonus money alone. More than $49 million of the contract will be paid out in the first three years of his contract. While the contract is steep for the Avalanche, McKinnon is worth every penny. Since breaking into the league, MacKinnon has tallied 648 points in 638 games for the Colorado Avalanche. MacKinnon was an integral part of bringing the Stanley Cup back to Colorado and will play a huge role in helping the powerhouse of the Western Conference stay on top.
