Nationwide Arena Requires $60 Million in investment to keep operating
The Home of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nationwide Arena faces a major repair bill, which could threaten the team's long-term viability in the arena.
For many NHL teams, arena maintenance is a diffcult undertaking, as most facilities in the NHL have a short-lifespan of 25 years or less.
In order to maintain Nationwide Arena, the McConnell Group claims the Arena needs a $60 Million in investment for repairs:
The itemized requirements for the repairs, outlines cosmetic and structural repairs for the arena:
Roof - $9 million
Cooling Towers - $7.5 million
New Scoreboard - $8.5 million
Fire Alarm replacement - $2.5 million
Suite renovations - $1 million
Club Level renovations - $1.7 million
Concession stand overhaul - $1.5 million
Party Tower LED improvements - $675k
According to The Hockey News, these are what's required just to start and it's not the entire list.
Some structural items, such as the roof and cooling systems need to be addressed obviously, while most cosmetic repairs seems like an afterthought when you have Fire Alarm Replacements that should come first on the list.
Nationwide Arena, isn't just a hockey arena, it's also a concert venue as well, so in order to maintain the status quo and keep money outside of hockey flowing.
