Wayne Gretzky's Own Brother Is Trending For The Wrong Reasons
Wayne Gretzky's younger brother, Keith was hired by the Edmonton Oilers in 2016 as Assistant General Manager. With the exit of Ken Holland from the position, the Oilers are in search for GM candidates.
Of course, Keith Gretzky's name came up as one of the GM Candidates.
CEO Jeff Jackson and the Oilers have resigned themselves to let the situation ride out for now, and will not resolve it soon.
It looks like fans may be reading between the lines, which Jackson may unintentionally be telegraphing.
Could Keith Gretzky be Jackson's go-to choice to take control of the GM position in 2024-2025?
Oilers Insider Jim Matheson even put his two cents in on the topic:
«Again, I think Keith Gretzky can be Oilers' GM going forward. He's very smart, he's put the work in, he runs the farm team. There's such thing as rewarding and trusting people from within an organization with an advancement. Carolina did it with Eric Tulsky.»
This suggestion would upset fans and would cause fans to put Gretzky's name in trending topics, for all the wrong reasons.
Since his tenure with the Edmonton Oilers has lasted since 2016, it seems Keith Gretzky has proven himself beyond a nepo-hire.
However, fans are skeptical that the Oilers would be relying upon the same old good old boys club that has continued to operate in the NHL for some time now.
Of course, their criticisms aren't wrong, but if he is to be GM, merit should be considered.
