New details have emerged regarding the alleged drunk driver who killed NHL star Johnny Gaudreau along with his brother Matthew as they cycled down a County Road in New Jersey.
The driver, Sean Higgins served in the US military holding the rank of a decorated Major worked at the Gaudenzia Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centres as a financial officer. Shortly after the news broke, the company issued a statement stating that he has been placed on immediate leave.
«Mr. Higgins, an employee of Gaudenzia, was immediately placed on leave.»
The company went further to extend their sympathies to the Gaudreau family. Higgins served in the 44th infantry brigade combat team in Kosovo to which he was promoted to the rank of major after showing leadership in 2019 while visiting the former Republic.
As the story continues to unfold, the enormous shock and disbelief that has swept through the sports world and the rest of North America has been incredible with tributes to both brothers emerging at many baseball games and other events as the shear tragedy that this is becoming understood.
The NHL, along with all NHL teams and many players who knew Gaudreau well have reached out to the family and to the world expressing their sympathies and sadness. Many aspects of this story continue to worsen as the families were preparing for a wedding that were supposed to happen on Saturday as their sister was about to tie the knot.
We want to offer our condolences in the wake of this tragedy to the Gaudreau family, the Columbus Blue Jackets and any other player or executive who knew Mr. Gaudreau and his brother.
