Stan Bowman makes move that is pushing Leon Draisaitl out of the Edmonton Oilers organizations
Stan Bowman's tenure hasn't begun well, as he recently lost two prospects to offer sheets from the same team. Bowman reasoned it was for cap flexibility, but the Oilers are still struggling uphill with only $954K in cap space.
This of course isn't all his fault, as Ken Holland regularly spent to the limit, trying to turn the Oilers into contenders.
But now, Oilers fans may succumb to the tragedy that is Draisaitl contract negotiations, as it appears Bowman and Michael Liut, Draisaitl's agent is far apart right now.
While both have agreed that Draisaitl needs a long-term contract, they're not making headway on payment, of course.
This sounds like another Bowman masterclass in screw-ups, as Oilers fans could up gnashing their teeth if things go south.
Draisaitl will be a UFA at the end of next season and could leave the Oilers negatively impacted as a result of his exit.
If the Oilers can't secure Draisaitl now, what does that mean for someone like Connor McDavid? This doesn't bode well.
It's of the utmost importance Bowman and Liut come to terms, as Draisaitl has stated he wouldn't sign a deal during the 2024-2025 season. This is according to Oilers Insider Joshua Marshall.
"If there is no deal to be signed before September 19th, Leon won't negotiate during the season. The goal is to get this done before that date as Leon doesn't want this to be a problem or a distraction going into training camp."
Should Bowman fail to deliver, much gnashing teeth and weeping could be the future for Oilers fans.
