Nick Alberga and The Leafs Nation recently welcomed a special guest, former NHL player and coach Joel Quenneville, on their podcast. Quenneville, a three-time Stanley Cup winner and a former teammate of Borje Salming, played 93 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in his first two NHL seasons.

During the podcast, he discussed his experience coaching the Chicago Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup victories, noting that while the team makeup was different each time, the core players were essential to each win.

These players included Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Corey Crawford, and Niklas Hjamarsson.

Quenneville also talked about the Toronto Maple Leafs and singled out Morgan Rielly's play as a key momentum changer for the team during the 2023-2024 season.

He emphasized the importance of approaching each playoff round differently and reinventing the team to maintain success.

When asked about rotating goalies, he stated that he likes to ride the hot hand and have a 1b or 2b on a needed basis, while also exercising patience.

Throughout the podcast, Quenneville shared a lot of insight into his coaching style and how it has evolved over the years.

He also discussed trading players and his various philosophies based on his experience in the game. Overall, the interview provided great insight into the thought process of a former NHL coach.

Finally, Quenneville was asked about his return to coaching, and he revealed that he currently has no set timetable for when he will return to an NHL team's bench.
