Toronto fans furious as Maple Leafs are parting ways with most valuable player
Maple Leafs to part ways with veteran defensemen
After facing elimination by the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be cleaning house after firing their head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Their first moves appears to be letting defensemen Joel Edmundson walk in free agency, in hopes to find another NHL home.
Edmundson has a role of being a shutdown defensemen, having a Stanley Cup underneath his belt from his season with the St.Louis Blues- a veteran presence that defensemen such as him claim, is very rare.
Edmundson is one of the most valuable players to the Maple Leafs: being one of the only players to actually make it deep in the playoffs as he's won the Stanley Cup.
This has left fans of the Maple Leafs upset, as Edmundson is a keystone defensemen in the Leafs' lineup:
This opens up a perfect opportunity for rebuilding teams, such as the Chicago Blackhawks, to give Edmundson the money he wants in return for a true veteran presence on their blue line.
