It remains to be seen if any more details will be revealed, given that Filimonov was still young at age 52.

The 6'6" Perm native, of Russia was drafted in the 3rd round, 49th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1991. He would be traded to the Senators in 1993, playing 30 games with the team scoring five points(1 G, 4 A) during the 1993-1994 season.

Filimonov would later return to what would become the KHL playing for Perm Molot in his hometown.

Though his time in the NHL was brief, he was known as a fierce competitor, and wouldn't back down from a fight.

Rest in peace Dmitri, and we send our condolences to the Filimonov friends and family.
