The Chicago Blackhawks came into this original-six bout with hope, as they would face the old guard. Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane coming back home for the first time, in a long time.

The two teams haven't met since February 2025, and well the Blackhawks defense hasn't done enough to protect Petr Mrazek tonight.

Alex DeBrincat would score the 1st goal on the night after the Detroit Red Wings power-play with momentum in their favor.

The goal occurred with 2 seconds in the 1st period left, with an assist by Dylan Larkin.

DeBrincat's play was relentless after he picked up a loose puck down front to score first. Honestly, showing why many teams are always buyers when it comes to 40-goal scorers.

While it's good to see Cat thriving, it's not good to see the Hawks give up goals so easily.

Especially against a team that hasn't been doing the greatest lately, the Red Wings are 5-5-1 this season.

DeBrincat being traded to Ottawa was a start to the Blackhawks' rebuild which began under Kyle Davidson:

Chicago traded DeBrincat to Ottawa last summer for pick Nos. 7 and 39 in the 2022 Draft and a third-round pick in 2024. Detroit's last 40-goal scorer was Marian Hossa, who scored exactly 40 during his one and only season with the Red Wings in 2008-09.

The Draft picks that the Blackhawks received from Ottawa became Kevin Korchinski, now in the AHL. While the 39th pick in 2022, was used to select Paul Ludwinski, currently with the Rockford IceHogs this season as well.
