He was asked the question on how tough it was to make this decision and Davidson expressed that it was extremely hard as he must separate his professional life with his friendship of Richardson that he bonded with since hiring him as head coach.
Davidson explained that this is a business, and this was a business decision as the results were not there an appeared to be worsening with every game being played.
As Davidson explained his position, it was clear that he was having a difficult time revealing the news as he was probably still processing his decision.
This decision seemed to be on the horizon even though less than one month ago he had stated that it was ridiculous to consider firing Richardson even with the Blackhawks spiraling downward in the standings.
The Blackhawks are facing several issues including being in the basement of the standings, the collapse of Connor Bedard's confidence and lack of goal scoring which is causing him to regress and the overall execution of the team that seems to not closeout games or even take leads.
With Richardson out, Rockford Ice hogs head coach Anders Sorensen will now man the bench and was given the interim tag as Davidson would like to see if the rookie head coach can handle this job.
It remains to be seen on how he will do but the change has been made and now it's up to the Blackhawks and Davidson to improve their position for the remainder of the year.
Sorensen will take on the Winnipeg Jets for his first game behind the bench as they play against Blackhawks on Saturday December 7th and game time will be at 7:00 PM eastern.
