NHL analysts reveals Seth Jones will be traded

ESPN analyst Greg Wyshynski dropped a bomb regarding the Chicago Blackhawks' upcoming 2024-25 season, apart of his prediction for all 32-teams.

The NHL isn't populated with 29-year-old defensemen who can skate top-pairing minutes (25:29 per game on average for Jones last season). His contract looks less elephantine with each passing season. This could be the season where Jones gets moved if the right situation presents itself to GM Kyle Davidson, who is not the GM who traded for and signed Jones to that contract

It seems like now is the perfect time to get rid of Seth Jones and his $9.5M cap hit, with young players like Connor Bedard on the roster and also young defensemen on the outskirts, such as Kevin Korchinski, Ethan Del Mastro, Nolan Allan and more- Jones is soaking a roster spot which could be used for valuable growth.

Blackhawks reporter Tab Bamford revealed three key points behind this, and questions that have to be answered. His third point sums it up the most, in regards to Jones soaking up a valuable roster spot.

Third: Do the Blackhawks feel they have enough depth on the blue line - and, more importantly, are comfortable with another younger player stepping into a significant NHL role sooner than later. Because, while some folks have issues with Jones' performance since coming to Chicago, the reality brings me back to the point Wyshynski made about there not being a lot of relatively young - on, and right-handed by the way - defensemen on the market to replace him at 25 minutes per night.

Bamford notes there's three important questions that could simply be answered. That Jones could like the fit of the team interested in acquiring him, the Blackhawks are ready to move a defensemen to full-time NHL minutes and that the cost/fit/return for the Blackhawks makes sense for the Blackhawks.
